“Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” Psalm 55:22 (NASB)
Fanny Crosby became ill when she was only six weeks old. The family doctor was out of town and another man (a quack pretending to be a doctor) was called in to treat young Fanny. He prescribed hot mustard poultices be applied to her eyes and the treatment left her blind.
As she grew into childhood and adulthood, she refused to be pitied. She lived a useful life.
When she was only eight years old, she wrote these words:
“Oh, what a happy soul am I
Although I cannot see,
I am resolved that in this world
Contented I will be.
How many blessings I enjoy
That other people don’t,
To weep and sigh because I’m blind
I cannot, and I won’t.”
There are many who have perfect eyesight, and yet are unable to see. All of us have more than we deserve, yet we fail to see the blessings we receive from God. We fail to count our blessings. “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights” James 1:17 (NASB) — yet we seldom offer prayers of gratitude.
With confidence, Fanny Crosby wrote the song, “All The Way My Saviour leads Me”…
“All the way my Saviour leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heavenly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell.
For I know what e’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
All the way my Saviour leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see.
All the way my Saviour leads me;
Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day,
This my song thro’ endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.
Shouldn’t we have that confidence?
No matter what happens in life we can cast our burdens upon Him, because Jesus doeth all things well.
