Storm Warnings

mandylynncarpenter

thL67A7PVL Last night our storm radio went off again and again.

Alerting us to thunderstorm warnings, tornado watches and flooding.

Each time it went off, we checked it out to see what the alert was for.

Because if we needed to head for the basement, we wanted to know ahead of time.

As I was reading the account of Jesus calming the storm, the Lord showed me some storm warnings as well.

1. Storms will come and they usually are unexpected.

Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. Mathew 8:23-24

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. I Peter 4:12

2. Storms can lead us to unbelief

Impossible. HIM-possible.

Knowing God through His Word ... Day by Day

Matthew 19:23-26  “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven.   Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”   When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”  But Jesus looked at them and said,  With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

John Piper comments:

One thing is crystal clear: a camel cannot go through the eye of a needle. It is impossible. And if you have ever heard anyone say that this is a reference to a gate in the wall around Jerusalem which was so small that a camel had to get down low and take the load off its back, there is no such…

Be A Light That Shines In The Darkness

imagesUT6QLLCA
“Words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness.” Mother Teresa

“For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light” Ephesians 5:8 (NASB)
Servants of Christ shine with His light in a society that is hopelessly lost. We pose a weird phenomenon to those in darkness. They cannot figure us out! And that is exactly as Jesus planned it. Think of some distinctive characteristics of light:
Light is silent. No noise, no big splash, no banners–light simply shines. It’s like a single lighthouse along a rugged shoreline. All it does is shine as it turns.
Light gives direction. No words, no sermon. Jesus says that others “see” our actions.
Light attracts attention. You don’t have to ask people to look at you when you turn a light on in a dark room – it happens automatically.
If you are a Christian family in a non-Christian neighborhood, you are the light in that darkness. The same is true if you are the only Christian nurse on your floor, or student in your school, or professional in your firm or group, or salesman in your district. You are a light in darkness–a servant of God, who is being watched, who gives off a very distinct message…often without a word being said.
Let it shine! Don’t attempt to show off how bright and sparkling you are – just shine!

The Gospel According To Jesus – Part 32

bible
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man planted in his field. That seed is the smallest of all seeds, but when it grows, it is one of the largest garden plants. It becomes big enough for the wild birds to come and build nests in its branches.”
Matthew 13:31-32 (NCV)
