“Reverent Fear”

2-2014 087-LR

Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

1 Peter 1:17-21

These few verses have really been “messed with” over the years!  I used to read terror into them, as though they were a serious threat of hellfire, but these days, I’ve changed my view.  Let’s bear in mind what Peter has been telling us up to this point.  Recall that he has…

Our Thoughts And Beliefs Matter

True Dunamis

Francis FrangipaneWhile we may find comfort in being Christians, being a Christian has not made us perfect. There are still many strongholds within us. His Judgment Is The One That Matters

“For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” John 12:43 (KJV)
During His earthly ministry Jesus warned against doing even the most praiseworthy things, such as praying, fasting, and giving, for the purpose of pleasing the neighbors. What is done for human approval, He said, will bring no added honor from God (Matthew 6:1-18). If the purpose is to please and honor God, however, that should be evident to the neighbors as well (Matthew 5:16). God’s opinion must come first, because His judgment is the one that matters!

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had, and bought it.”
Matthew 13:45-46 (HCSB)
