The Future Is As Bright As The Promises Of God

The Believer’s Food

“But He answered and said, ‘It is written, MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'” Matthew 4:4 (NASB)
Jesus was hungry after having fasted for forty days and forty nights in the wilderness. Satan approached Him and subtly suggested that “if” He was the Son of God as He claimed to be, He should turn the stones to bread. Thus He would have satisfied His physical hunger. But Jesus replied with a quotation from the Scriptures (Deut. 8:1-3). He could have simply spoken the words Himself and what He said would have been the Word of God; but He chose to say “It is written,” showing the importance of the Old Testament Scriptures.
Man needs both brawn and brain if he is to meet the physical and mental challenge of this life. But he cannot be physically strong nor mentally alert if he does not eat the right kind of food. The same is true in the spiritual life. To feed upon the living Word is to become like the Word upon which we feed.

    We do need to store His Word in our hearts and read both the old and new testaments for understanding and grounding in our faith…. Thanks for the post.

    Your words were found and I ate them,
    And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart;
    For I have been called by Your name,
    O Lord God of hosts. (Jeremiah 15:6)

    So very true – God’s word remains the same yesterday, today and forever. When Yeshua walked this earth all the believers had was the Torah – no New testament as we know it existed. That was the word He lived on and which we should continue to live on. What I love about the word is that all the gospels are an echo of what is written in the Torah and Tenach – the first 5 books and the prophets. God wants His word etched into our hearts and minds so that we live His word out…

    Thank you for this post and for stopping by my blog.

    Be blessed
