The Future Is As Bright As The Promises Of God

“Hear Me, everyone, and understand: There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Mark 7:14-17 (NKJV)

  1. This verse is a puzzle indeed. But then, the sayings of Christ which I most enjoy are also the most puzzling.

Where does what comes out from a man, come from? If we would were to superficially look at it, the psychologist might say what comes out of us is what we’ve experienced in terms of everything in the whole of our environment that teaches us what we know and in turn, how we behave. So that, what went in is what comes out.

“If you have ears to hear…” thus, the words of Christ go in and if one really hears, their meaning would come out. Of course, I think he was responding in reference to eating and drinking so I may be expounding way out of context 🙂

The Jews would wash their hands, go through all the ceremonies, abstain from eating meats and certain foods, but they cared very little about the cleanliness of heart and spirit. Therefore, Jesus directed their attention to the heart and that which really counts–inward holiness and purity. If one is impure in his heart, the washing of hands and abstaining from food will not clean the inner man.
