The Future Is As Bright As The Promises Of God

The One and Only God

“You shall have no other gods before Me.” Deuteronomy 5:7 (NASB)

To many of us, this command against the worship of other gods may seem irrelevant. However, let us not forget Jesus’ warning, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth” (Matthew 6:24 NASB). Paul adds that covetousness is idolatry; “Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry” (Colossians 3:5 NASB). Not all the world’s idols are carved statues made of gold, silver, or bronze. We are to, “Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry (1 Corinthians 10:14 NASB), in any form.
People may not bow before other gods in classic pagan worship, but homes, automobiles, and similar possessions certainly appear to be idols to many human beings. In this age of humanistic influence man himself is an idol to great numbers of people. Modern day humanists insist that man has no need for God, the Bible, salvation, prayer, Heaven, and other such religious beliefs or practices. Others claim to worship God, but their concept of God has no basis in the truth revealed in Scripture. They have fashioned their own god as surely as did those who cast golden idols.

  1. Hey thanks for that! I reckon for most people’s idols are self and humanity or materialism (as you said)
