The Gospel According To Jesus – Part 143

“Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, for in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
Woe to you who are full, for you shall hunger.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.”
Luke 6:20-26 (NKJV)

It Is The Blood That Makes An Atonement For The Soul

“Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NASB)
It is not the spotless, sinless life of Jesus that saves sinners. It is His death alone, apart from anything else–the fact that He bore the sins of sinners: “And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed” 1 Peter 2:24 (NASB).
The spotless, sinless life of Jesus revealed what He was, displaying His divine qualifications to be the offering for sin. His spotless life proved Him to be the Lamb of God, because He was the only sinless one who ever lived upon the face of this earth. He was truly the Lamb unblemished and spotless, the Lamb that only God could provide. But it was on the cross of Calvary that He stood in the place where every sinner should stand because of his sins. On the cross Jesus met all of God’s righteous demands. He endured the wrath that was due every sinner because of his sin. Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God, took your place and mine, willingly, on the cross. It was there that He bore our sin and paid the sin-debt. It is the blood of Jesus–not His perfect, sinless life–that makes atonement.
