The Future Is As Bright As The Promises Of God

Purity In God’s Love

“And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” 1 John 3:3 (NASB)
The “hope” mentioned here is that of I John 3:2; “Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”
We are striving in this life to be like Him in Christian character, but we sometimes fail. That is why we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness.
To possess such a hope, John tells us that we must purify ourselves as Jesus was pure. While on earth, though tempted as we are by the sinful conditions around Him, Jesus remained pure of any sin, We who bear His name should seek this same purity. Paul urged Timothy to “flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” 2 Timothy 2:22
The exhortation to purify ourselves is similar to the phrase found in Acts 2:40, where Peter told the multitude on the Day of Pentecost to “be saved from this perverse generation.” Actually they could not save themselves without Christ’s cleansing power, nor can we purify ourselves without Him. On the other hand, we do save ourselves from this perverse generation when we decide to come to Christ. Jesus will purify us from our past sins, but we must then make the effort to remain pure through surrender to His will and to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect…that is the standard for Christians. No, we won’t be perfect in this world as you mention above. But we strive to sin less often as we grow in Christian maturity…
