The Gospel According To Jesus – Part 149

bible
“I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
Luke 7:28 (NASB)

The Ministry Of Reconciliation

“Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NASB)
To understand the ministry of reconciliation, we must first understand the concept of reconciliation. The basic idea is to take two persons who are in disagreement and help them resolve their differences so that they can resume their normal relationship. For example, when management and labor are in a contract dispute, their normal working relationship is interrupted. When negotiations reach an impasse, a mediator is brought in to help them resolve their differences. The mediator’s job is essentially to listen as each side states his case, determine where each has legitimate claims against the other, and then help the two sides work out a reasonable solution to which both can agree.
At Calvary Jesus Christ acted as the mediator between God and sinful man. We had no legitimate charge against a holy God, for He has never done us wrong. But because of our sin against God, He did have just cause for punishing us with death. The mediator’s judgment against us would have been devastating, but He graciously offered to pay the penalty for us in order to bring a resolution to the dispute. This offer was above and beyond the duty of a mediator; but then, Christ is no ordinary mediator. So it is that all sinners who agree to these terms and allow Christ to pay their death penalty for them can be reconciled to God, restored to a peaceful relationship with the One our sins have alienated.
We who have been reconciled to God by Christ are not to rest comfortably in our new standing. We have been given the ministry of reconciliation. We have the duty to announce to others what they need to do if they want to be reconciled to God as we have been.
