Jesus Tasted Death For Everyone

“But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.” Hebrews 2:9 (NASB)
Jesus tasted death for everyone. He suffered what you and I should have suffered. He came into the world to take the sinner’s place, the Just paying the penalty for the unjust. God visited mankind in the Person of His Son, suffered sin’s penalty, took man’s place and died in man’s stead–but only by His grace. And that grace becomes ours when we make it ours by faith.
In a body of flesh Jesus personally attacked Satan, the archenemy of man. He won that battle and took from Satan the keys of death. To John on the Isle of Patmos, Jesus said, “I am the living one. I died, but look–I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave” (Rev. 1:18 NLT). Thus through death, He destroyed him who held sway in the realm of death, rendered him powerless and stripped him of his rule in that realm–and freed “those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death” (Heb. 2:15 HCSB). Therefore Christians no longer fear death. “Perfect love casts our fear” (1 Jn. 4:18 NASB), and those who are trusting completely in Jesus are not afraid to live, nor are they afraid to die.
