We Will Always Be Tempted

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Indeed, has God said, “You shall not eat from any tree of the garden?'” Genesis 3:1 (NASB)
The devil is as dangerous to us as he was to Adam and Eve. Peter refers to him as “a roaring lion…seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet.5:8). According to Jesus, he is the prince of this world (John 12:31). We must remember, however, that the devil rules as a usurper. The old song is still true: “This is my Father’s world.” He who sought to thwart God’s purposes in Eden has been destroyed through the cross and the empty tomb (1 John 3:8). His eventual eternal doom is sure.
In the meantime, we need to be on our guard constantly. While we are to avoid temptation as much as possible, we will always be temped in some way until the Lord’s final victory, when Satan and his cohorts will be “cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” Revelation 20:10 (NASB)
