Awake or asleep, God is a safe resting place

Under His wings, I am safely abiding,
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild;
Still I can trust Him—I know He will keep me,
He has redeemed me and I am His child.
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves His children too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey His commandments. Loving God means keeping His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:1-5 (NLT)
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NASB)
We are pilgrims on earth, our citizenship is in heaven; and this world through which we are traveling is a wilderness for believers.
What the high priest did for Israel in the wilderness, Jesus is doing for us today in a much better way. We can travel with assurance and confidence because we know that we can come to the throne of grace, and, through Christ, obtain mercy and find needed grace to help us in our time of need.
As we make our journey through this world, God has given us His Word—a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our pathway. God uses His Word to judge everything in our hearts that might cause us to step aside from the straight and narrow path of faith; He uses His Word to judge anything that might tempt us to seek rest and comfort in the desert of this world of sin and sorrow.
True believers have a High Priest—our High Priest is Jesus, the Son of God (Heb. 8:1). Our Priest is far better than the priesthood of Aaron, because our High Priest was tempted in all points as we are tempted, yet He did not sin. Therefore He can sympathize with our infirmities and our weaknesses. He knows that we are flesh.
Since we know that we have such a High Priest, one who Himself walked the same path we are walking, one who is touched with the feeling of our infirmities, believers are encouraged to come boldly to the throne of grace to receive mercy and to seek help in the time of need. He knows our every need; He is able and willing to supply those needs.
